The fact is that the old adage that A family that plays together stays together still holds true today. A family holiday, away from the stresses and pressures of daily routines, can be the perfect space for a family to make the kind of bonds that will last a lifetime. Children can spend time with grandparents in a relaxed, time-rich environment, in which they can really get to know each other and have a lot of fun together! For many adults, its a chance to spend time with their own parents, something they may not have done for some time.
The multigenerational holiday has many benefits for each of the generations, but planning where to go so that everyone has something special to look forward to and enjoy can be quite a challenge. Here is my recommendation for two destinations, perfect for guests from nine months to 99 years of age.
The Holiday of a Lifetime in Bermuda
Having worked in the travel industry for many years, Ive found that holidays to Bermuda have plenty to offer visitors of all generations. While everyone loves the beach, there is more to this sub-tropical island than pristine pink sand and turquoise seas. Golfers of all ages will love the choice of excellent courses on the island, and family tournaments can be played with views out over the Atlantic. If you prefer pampering to golf swings, no problem: both the young and old wont be able to get enough of the world-class spas.
I always recommend that families stay at the Grotto Bay Hotel because it offers everything from exciting excursions for the kids to a luxury spa and access to the natural underground swimming pool at Cathedral Cave.
A Family Getaway to the Algarve
The family-friendly Algarve in Portugal is closer to home, making it perfect for anyone who doesnt want to spend too long travelling. Again, theres the access to the wonderful coastline of stunning beaches, excellent restaurants, watersports and excursions. The Mediterranean coast also offers something for culture vultures in terms of a rich history and stunning, historic architecture.
Ideal for families, many of the resorts here offer childrens clubs, golf courses and spas to keep everyone happy and occupied. Leading the way is the Pine Cliffs Resort, voted Europes Best Family Resort by the World Travel Awards six years in a row. An ideal destination for multigenerational holidays, Pine Cliffs cleverly offers accommodation in townhouses or terraces so that a family can be together in communal spaces but still have room to spread out. It also has two childrens clubs (one for infants and another for 8- to 13-year-olds), a golf course and a spa. There truly is something for everyone.
With years of experience in organising multigenerational holidays to Bermuda, the Algarve and other beautiful destinations, I recommend them as a way of celebrating any special anniversary... or maybe just as a way of saying I love you to the people in your life that you really care about.
